Burghley House in Lincolnshire hosts the annual Burghley Horse Trials in late August/early September. The four-star three-day event — eventing's most demanding annual competition outside the Olympics — is held in the historic landscape of the Cecil family's Elizabethan house.
History

The 240-hectare Burghley Park provides the cross-country setting designed by Capability Brown in the 18th century.

Burghley's cross-country is regarded as the most challenging on the eventing calendar after Badminton. 30+ fences over 6.5 km.
